It feels like only a few months ago that the global rollout of Android Marshmallow began but there's already a new update on the block.
Android Nougat is finished and currently appearing on devices all over the world. Right now Google is only making the new operating system available to their Nexus range of handsets, including the 5X, 6P and Nexus 9 tablet.
Rather than releasing a new smartphone of their own with the latest firmware the first new handset to use it will be LG's V20- in a major deal for the Korean manufacturer.
Marshmallow landed in October 2015 so this is a very quick turnaround for Google. Nougat brings in features like being able to have two apps open at the same time sharing the screen and tweaks to notifications and the Doze mechanic.
Beyond the V20 and Nexus devices it is up to the individual manufacturers when they'll support the Nougat update, we'll have more word as and when that happens.
