Apple may have outed its new iPads ahead of tonight's event

While Apple has struggled to keep its upcoming announcements under wraps, this may be the first time that it has leaked product details itself.

Apple’s iTunes Store was updated with screenshots of the iOS 8.1 user guide. One page of the guide listed both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3. It tells us, as was expected, that both devices will feature the Touch ID sensor. Another page detailed the burst shooting mode that will feature on the Air 2.

Since the devices were spotted, Apple has rectified images in its iOS 8 user guide. The guide now lists the iPad mini with Retina Display and the iPad Air.

This may have simply been an error on Apple’s part; perhaps someone has these expected devices on the brain and lost the run of themselves when updating the guide. However, the timing of the gaffe is somewhat suspicious. Apple’s upcoming devices were potentially outed shortly after Google announced its Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices.

Apple will announce what it has planned for its iPad line-up later this evening. The event can be watched on Apple’s website.
