Flickr is a Yahoo-owned site for the uploading and sharing of photographs. In the past, it was very much the preserve of fancy DSLR cameras but that trend has been changing in recent years with the increased complexity and availability of top quality mobile cameras.
The site just released some stats for uploads in 2014 and the list previously dominated by Canon and Nikon at the top has a new entry in the form of Apple. The mobile brand moves up from third place to second, displacing Nikon and showing just how far mobile sensors have come, that they can actually compete with some dedicated optics - and they're certainly more convenient.
The top five list is rounded out by Sony and Samsung, but Apple is the only company on there which only produces mobiles, which is a pretty amazing feat.
Delving deeper into the figures - produced by PetaPixel - we find that the top mobile shooter was Apple's iPhone 5 followed by the iPhone 4S, 4, 5C with the Samsung Galaxy S3 coming in fifth place. If you're interested in which DSLR's were top of the heap, it was tied between the Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000 while Olympus topped the heap of mirrorless cameras but Sony dominated the rest of the pack.
