Tech makers Apple have just been awarded a patent to produce their own wearable camera. The new device would be capable of working under water and is seen as a direct challenge to the cameras made by American company GoPro.
In the wake of the annoucement, GoPro stock fell by as much as 15 percent - showing the kind of a effect a company the size of Apple can have, especially when you consider that there isn't even the slighest suggestion such a camera is anywhere near production or release.
GoPro has become the leader in action cameras in recent years, with their footage being used in many high profile projects as people attach them to their helmets, surfboards and even family pets in search of internet glory. With high definition video, slow motion, easy time lapses and a rugged design, they're perfect for being used on the go.
It's not clear how an Apple product would compete but, with their new focus on upgrading the iPhone lineup, it's not likely that we'll see an Apple Cam in the very near future.
