Apple ships 1 billion iOS devices

Apple announced that it shipped 1 billion iOS devices as of November. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced this achievement during the company's earnings call.

The billionth device to be shipped was a space-grey 64GB iPhone 6 Plus. Apple is keeping this device at its headquarters. Cook described this milestone as “an almost unfathomable milestone” and added that “we are all incredibly proud to be a part of it.”

It was an impressive quarter for Apple. The company reported record sales of 74.5 million iPhones sold in their latest financial quarter, and revenues of $74.6 billion, an increase of 30% from last year. Apple also revealed that HealthKit is in 600 apps; its Swift development tools have been downloaded 11 million times; more than 30 brands have signed up for CarPlay; and more than 750 banks and credit unions signed up to Apple Pay.

The one area that Apple could improve is its iPad line. Sales were down 18% in units and 22% in revenue. But, according to the rumour mill, this is an area that Apple is to focus on in the near future.
