The British Museum wasn’t to be “perceived as something fun” according to Ovum researcher, Ed Barton. And what will prompt said change in perception – Making a Minecraft version of it of course!
"It's the digital equivalent of building the British Museum in Lego," Barton continued for those wholly ignorant of the game Microsoft recently acquired for a stunning 2.5 BILLION dollars, "You have to build it brick by brick".
So the British Museum wants to appeal to the younger potential visitors by replicating itself in their ‘favourite’ game. That said, it’ll be getting them in the door by enlisting their help in the virtual build. Barton describes the outsourced volunteer labour as a “collaborative thing”. The initial stages of the British Museum’s Minecraft build will involve the construction of the Great Court and the building’s façade.
The British museum in Minecraft project is still in its very early stages, but expect to see regular updates on its progress soon.
