Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana could be the next to appear in the Office suite to help you out when you’re writing a letter.
Microsoft is currently testing a "Work Assistant" app that will be available within Microsoft Office on mobile and desktop platforms, according to The Verge. It uses voice commands and Cortana technology to edit and share Word documents.
Cortana could make the leap to Android and iOS devices as a result even though they have their own voice-activated assistants. Microsoft has been porting its suite of Office apps to other platforms and seems intent on making its apps and services available to all.
Some will shiver at the thought of Cortana tapping on the screen to let you know you’ve made a mistake, but apparently she’ll be less invasive than Clippy. Microsoft has been improving Cortana in recent months and integrated its virtual assistant into Windows 10. We have to imagine that they learned some lessons from the 90s.
