Facebook Messenger adds video calls

Facebook is set to take on the likes of Skype, Facetime, and Google Hangouts by adding video calling to its Messenger app.

To start a video call, all you have to do is click the video icon in the top-right hand corner of the screen. Video calls must be started from an existing Messenger conversation. Facebook said that it’s integrating the two tools because “It’s not polite to call someone out of the blue anymore.”

Once the call has started, you can switch between your devices cameras, or turn your camera off entirely.

You can see how Facebook Messenger’s video calls feature works in the video below.

The feature has been rolled out to Messenger users in the UK as well as most of Europe and the US. Facebook said that the feature will be rolled out to other regions “over the coming months.” It is available to both Android and iOS users.
