Facebook Messenger hits billion user mark

Facebook really wants every single person on the planet to be using Messenger, and they're doing pretty well so far.

The company has just announced that Messenger now has 1 billion monthly users. That's a lot of emoji, pics, words and giant thumbs being sent each and every day and shows how far they've come in terms of encouraging people to use the app.

"People use Messenger to connect with the people and businesses they care most about. They make plans, share dreams, send payments, tell jokes, play games, let their loved ones know they’re thinking of them and much, much more. Today we are announcing that more than 1 billion people now use Facebook Messenger every month, making Messenger one of only a handful of apps worldwide that touch so many lives."

Considering that more than 1 billion people use Facebook itself every day, it's clear that a large part of the world communicates through these apps.

As a form of celebration, Facebook has now made it possible to send a shower of balloons inside the app, and it looks pretty nice.
