The upcoming Fitbit Surge will have all the latest and greatest features of a fitness band, but will look more like a smartwatch.
The Fitbit Surge is being described, in its own marketing materials, as a “fitness superwatch.” The leak, courtesy of The Verge, outlines the key features of the Surge, which include wrist-based heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, and compatibility with a variety of workouts. The most standout feature is that fitness enthusiasts can use the band without carrying around a smartphone too.
If the wearable is connected to a smartphone, it can also be used to receive “smart” notifications. The marketing materials adds that you can see call and text notifications, and control music from your wrist. So, we’re not sure if they’re going to be that much smarter than notifications displayed on competing devices.
The Fitbit Surge is rumoured to be available in three colours: black, slate and tangerine. It is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
