Future iPads may feature Touch ID and Apple Pay

Apple is expected to host an event in the coming month where it will announce a new iPad. But, thanks to those digging around in iOS 8’s developer beta code, we may know some of the features that the new iPad will have.

Hamza Sood has uncovered code that points to unannounced iPads with Touch ID fingerprint readers and Apple Pay support. The developer spotted the code string and tweeted his findings. He revealed, “Pay with iPad using Touch ID. With Apple Pay, you no longer need to type card numbers and shipping information.”

It looks like Apple Pay will only be used for in-app purchases, as there’s no mention of NFC support. Taking out an iPad to pay at the store doesn’t seem like the most convenient way to pay, so it’s probably for the best.

No date has been announced regarding when the new iPads and the finished 8.1 update will be released, but October looks most likely.
