Gabe Newell appeared on screen at the Unity Vision Summit to make three announcements. Of course, that might cause some of the VR developers in attendance to sit up and take notice, but the announcements themselves were some consolation for the lack of Half-Life 3 announcements.
He grinned to himself as he described the third announcement as his "Oprah moment," giving everyone a free HTC Vive Pre headset. He may want to work on his actual delivery, but those getting headsets weren't complaining.
Newell also revealed that Valve and Unity have collaborated on native SteamVR support for the game engine, and Valve is releasing a rendering plugin for Unity that will improve visual fidelity and performance.
