Google has so many secret and not so secret projects on the go that its just about impossible to keep up. One of them is Project Loon - aimed at providing internet connectivity to those in isolated areas via a series of balloons.
It sounds a bit nuts, and it probaly is, but the network of weather balloons could potentially bring millions in disadvantaged areas into contact with the wonders of the world wide web. And now, one of those atmospheric travellers has managed to traverse the globe in just 22 days.
That's a full 10 days ahead of Google estimates and bodes well for the aerodynamic properties of the specially designed craft, which has seen many tweaks during these early stages. Up to two thirds of the world's population still doesn't have access to the internet in any way and these stratospheric balloons could be the answer - keep up with the project on their Google+ page.
