Google is targeting a new 'hot' market.
Google looks likely to be the next entrant into the Cloud storage market with plans to release a service called
Drive. Like other Cloud storage services, such as
Dropbox, users are able to store files online and retrieve them from multiple devices. These files can also be shared with other Drive users.
The service is set to launch in the next few months, although pricing plans have not been established. It is expected to be free for most users with a small fee being charged to those who want to store a large amount of files. Dropbox is already on the market and its prices are surely being used as a guide for Google.
It has been reported that Google originally investigated the idea of cloud storage in 2007, but never pressed through with the idea. Dropbox launched in the same year and grew to a reported value of $4 billion in 2011. This is certainly a lucrative market, but it is not the first time that Google is attempting to muscle in on an established hot market. They will be hoping that it can fare slightly better than the “Facebook killer”, Google+.
