Approximately one in every twenty Google searches is something to do with health. We’ve all made the mistake of searching our symptoms only to come away feeling worse because all signs point to some illness that leaves you with hours left to live. Google wants to rectify that.
With the help of its Knowledge Graph, and cooperation from a team of doctors, Google will display information about your health-based inquiry at the top of the page. This info box will be similar to how it displays information regarding historical figures and landmarks. Google will outline "typical symptoms and treatments" as well as key details about your condition.
Google’s Product Manager, Prem Ramaswami, said that he hopes “empower” people when making health-related decisions and informs them about common conditions. Thankfully, he notes that this feature “doesn’t mean these search results are intended as medical advice.”
So, Google may be able to help you understand common conditions, but you should still consult your doctor with what ails you.
