GoPro may be having a tough time with its latest products but the company isn't going anywhere, and is next setting its sights on the emerging 360 degree video craze.
To that end they're producing Omni, a previously teased rig which holds six GoPro Hero 4 Black cameras in such a way that they cover every available angle. The goal, of course, is to provide all the coverage needed to stitch together a 3D video, where users can look around in any direction they want either through their VR headset or on a smartphone. The name was revealed a few months back and now we have a look at the latest version of the hardware, via Engadget.
Further details are pretty sparse, but it would cost around $3000 to buy just those cameras so it's a bit of an investment, though affordable for the kinds of dedicated hobbyists and mid level professionals who are the target market. We don't yet know when the product will be out either. GoPro needs a win so hopefully this will get them back on the map, alongside the launch of their own drone which has been in the works for a good long while.
