Huawei announced the P9 at the beginning of April. We recently went hands on with it to see how the follow-up to the impressive P8 fares.
One of the hallmarks of the P8 was its impressive camera, but Huawei felt that more could be done. With the P9, it wanted to enable people to get more artistic with photos and teamed up with photography experts Leica to co-engineer a camera setup that will let users do more.
We can say that Huawei accomplished what it set out to do. Pictures taken using the P9 are packed with detail and colour, which is the result of the dual-camera setup. The P9 features two 12MP sensors, an RGB sensor and a monochrome sensor. The former is designed to capture colour, while the latter focuses on image detail. The monochrome sensor also allows for some artistic expression, letting you capture stunning greyscale images.
Aside from the camera, the P9 is a punchy device packing Huawei’s own Kirin 955 processor and 3GB RAM. It is more than capable of handling anything you task it with and there’s no lag when you open the camera. The P9 also features a beautiful 5.2-inch Full HD display, which reaches right out to the side edges, and 32GB expandable storage.
The handset itself looks great, building on the design philosophy that we’ve seen in Huawei’s recent outings. As said, the screen goes from edge to edge and the handset’s design simply works.
The Huawei P8 may have put the Chinese smartphone manufacturer on some people’s radar, but the P9 is an all-round evolution. It packs incredible camera technology, powerful specs, and a stunning design. We look forward to playing around with this more.
