Google has announced that 11 of its 13 proposed diversified emoji have been approved by the Unicode Consortium.
These new emoji have been designed to better represent men and women in a variety of professions. Not only are both genders represented, but a number of ethnicities are too.
You’ll have access to new emoji such as rockstars, educators, mechanics, scientists, and chefs. Unicode rejected the healthcare worker and high-tech worker, stating that a range of healthcare professions could be represented by one emoji, while the high-tech worker was hard to identify at small scale.
Meanwhile, male and female versions of 33 existing emoji have been greenlit. So now you’ll be able to pick a male or female runner or cyclist, or a man or a woman getting their hair cut.
Vendors can start working on design and implementation right now, so they will be able to be deployed by the end of the year.
