If you want to enjoy the “full Rift experience,” you’ll need a fairly beefy PC. Oculus announced the recommended specs for its virtual reality headset.
The specs, from the Oculus website, recommend:
- NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
- Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
- 8GB+ RAM
- Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
- 2x USB 3.0 ports
- Windows 7 SP1 or newer
It’s worth bearing in mind that these are the recommended specs, not the minimum. "The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration," Oculus said.
Oculus believes that developers can use this specs sheet to optimise and tune their game for a known PC spec. This, it says, means that “all of the games and applications for the Rift created by Oculus will provide an incredible experience on this system.”
There’s no price tag on the Oculus Rift VR headset just yet. The headset is due out next year. If your PC doesn’t meet the recommended specs, you may want to consider an upgrade in the meantime.
