House plants could soon charge your phone

A European startup is developing a gadget that would let you charge your phone using a house plant.

The Bioo Lite can generate electricity using only water, soil and a house plant by harnessing the power of photosynthesis. Yeah, science!

The designers say that this system generates as much power as the USB charge from a laptop or desktop computer. Apparently, the Bioo Lite can deliver up to three recharges in a 24-hour period. Don't worry though, the company says that this system doesn't impact the process of photosynthesis or the health of the plant itself.

The Bioo Lite is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo. You can see how the system works in the video below.
