HTC haven’t developed a tablet since 2011, the HTC Flyer, but that’s not stopping them from trying their hand at the next Google tablet. Google recently opted for HTC to manufacturer their new tablet, even over industry veterans like Samsung. In obvious anticipation of the upcoming project, HTC engineers have been jetting to the Mountain View Googleplex in recent months.
While HTC are market leaders when it comes to Smartphones, with their ONE M8 in particular standing out from the crowd, with a lacklustre tablet history to draw on, it remains unclear why Google would opt for them in particular. However, Google itself has a long standing tradition of intentionally broadening their partner base, so this could simply be a case of some Google Free Love.
While there is no comment from Google regarding the nature of this particular partnership, they did go on record stating,
“Android is a vibrant ecosystem, and many of the industry players are doing very well. There’s room for many partners to do well and to innovate with Android.”
