Huawei today launched the P9 and P9 Plus, which aim to change how we view smartphone photography.
While many smartphones can produce decent quality images, Huawei aims to allow users to do more and bring out their artistic side. The Huawei P9 and P9 Plus are designed to excel in low-light and high-contrast settings, as well as in environments that are easier to capture shots in.
The Huawei P9 features a dual-camera design with the RGB camera capturing vivid colour, while the monochrome camera captures intricate detail. These two sensors working in tandem means that users should be able to capture incredibly detailed and colourful images.
Huawei teamed up with photography specialists Leica to develop a smartphone photography system, which "brings together best-in-class hardware and software."
Knowing that users like to take control, Huawei offers full manual control on its latest flagships, so users can tweak a variety of settings and capture the shot that they envision.
But the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus offer more than impressive cameras. They offer a new file optimisation system so that your handset doesn't slow down over time, lengthy battery life, and enhanced security thanks to their fingerprint sensor. The P9 Plus also acts as an all-in-one remote control and features a Press Touch display, which acts like Apple's Force Touch display.
Both handsets can be charged quite quickly too if your battery happens to be running low before you head out. Just ten minutes charging can eek out up to five hours of talk time.
In terms of design, both feature a premium unibody design that features glass and metal "blended in harmony." The display at the front runs practically to the edges of the handset with a 1.7mm bezel that Huawei calls Invisible Edge, and the handset itself is quite compact; it's actually thinner than both the Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 6S Plus.
The Huawei P9 features a 5.2-inch display, a Kirin 955 processor and 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and an impressive 3,000mAh battery. The P9 Plus bumps up the display to 5.5-inches and introduces Press Touch technology - two level pressure that enables app shortcuts, similar to Apple's 3D Touch.
The Huawei P9 will be available in six colours, while the P9 Plus will be available in four.
Huawei also announced a new TalkBand bracelet, the TalkBand 3, which tracks your activity and sleep patterns more accurately than previous models, has a gorgeous design, and lets you take phone calls hands-free.
