Chinese site cnBeta.com reports that Apple's new A8 processor will be a dual-core chip running at 2GHz or more. Unsurprisingly, Apple will be sticking with the 64-bit architecture. By comparison, the 64-bit dual-core A7 processor is clocked at 1.3GHz.
Rather than focussing on speed increases, Apple is allegedly working on efficiency and battery life. The new chip is apparently smaller than its predecessor, which results in electrons having less distance to travel. This in turn should improve its performance and save energy.
If there’s any company that can compensate for raw power with impressive hardware, software, features and a clever pitch, it’s Apple. Stay tuned for what Apple has in store with the iPhone 6.
