The Korea Times suggests that the G Watch 2 may be revealed at this year’s IFA event, which will be held in September. Apparently this smartwatch will go up against Apple’s eagerly anticipated iWatch, whereas the original was pitched as a fairly affordable rival to Samsung’s Android Wear smartwatch.
LG has been in talks with “leading watchmakers” according to the source who spoke with The Korea Times, indicating that the G Watch 2 may feature a more premium design. It has previously been reported that Apple is linking up with watch manufacturers for its smartwatch, and hired one of TAG Heuer’s higher-ups, while Motorola has mirrored a traditional watch look with its Moto 360.
The G Watch 2 will reportedly feature an OLED display and an unspecified Qualcomm processor. The high-end smartwatch market could get quite crowded in the coming weeks. Apple is likely to announce its iWatch early in September, while many are awaiting the release of Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch.
