Kodak attempting to become a leaner, meaner machine.
Kodak has fallen on some tough times recently and has made the decision to move away from the digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frame markets. Despite forming a reputation for cameras initially, it is no longer a viable product for the company. These products are to be phased out over the first half of 2012. Instead, the company will focus on photo printing and desktop inkjet printers. While Kodak is exiting these markets, it will still honour product warranties and provide technical support for the products. It is expected that Kodak will save $100 million as a result of these changes.
Kodak filed for bankruptcy protection last month and is attempting to restructure the company. In the mean time, Kodak is trying to operate as normal. It is sad news for a company that is over 130 years in existence, but it struggled with the rise in popularity of digital photography.
