Pretty much as soon as Android Wear had been announced, LG was out the door with the G Watch - a smart device which gained mixed reviews for a number of reasons, not least functionality and design. Now, LG is set to improve on that original with their all new G Watch R.
The R most likely stands for Round, which is the most striking aspect of this wearable. The 1.3 inch Plastic OLED screen takes up the entire front face of the device and its the first rounded display of its kind available to consumers. The round face makes it much more visually appealing for watch fans and a range of analogue watch faces can be displayed. We think it looks very neat indeed.
It's nice to see a hardware button on the device, which likely takes you back to the home screen, and the G Watch R will run Google's Android Wear - an OS designed speciically for wearables and one that's increasing in functionality all the time. LG says the display will be visible even in bright sunlight and the innards include a 1.2GHz processor, 4 gigs of storage 512MB of RAM and a 410 mAh battery. Together with the small screen, that should see the R run a good deal longer than most smartwatches.
For something people are going to wear on their wrist everyday, style is a really important aspect of a smartwatch and the G Watch R has that in spades, particularly with the choice of an included calf skin leather strap.
The release date of the LG G Watch R hasn't been confirmed yet but look for more news out of IFA between the 5th and 10th of September 2014.
