They went into detail regarding the incoming Windows 8.1 update, however it’s not as far off as we suspected, landing on April 8th. Similarly, their mobile OS, Windows Phone 8.1 will reach Smartphones sometime between late April and early May.
Hardware manufacturers Micromax and Prestigio have partnered with Microsoft for Windows Phone. The 8.1 mobile OS will boast Action Centre, a revamped swipe down settings/notifications pane. Personalised lock screens made an appearance alongside APIs for widget creation. Start screen customisation is a go as are additional Live Tiles. They also debuted Cortana, which bears far more similarities to Apple’s Siri than her original Halo namesake.
The Windows 8.1 Update enjoyed fewer revelations. The focus will be on UI-optimisation for mouse and keyboard. Apps can now be pinned to the task bar and a boot/resume straight to desktop is on the brew. Additionally the introduction of Universal Windows Apps should make life easier for budding devs.
