Microsoft Lumia handset could have a 50MP camera

Recent Lumia devices have emphasised the importance of the camera, but the next generation Lumia 1020 will have a superior 50 megapixel camera, according to reports.

A new leak suggests that the follow-up for the Lumia 1020, which could be called the Lumia 1052 or Lumia 1030, will sport an even more impressive camera. NokiaPowerUser cites unnamed sources who say that the device will feature a 50 megapixel camera, a 4th gen short pulse LED Flash, and a mechanical shutter.

Photos of the new Lumia device’s prototype were recently leaked, featuring the distinctive camera that we’ve seen on other Lumia devices. Of course, it is worth bearing in mind that this device could be refined and changed significantly before it is released to consumers.

Microsoft is likely to announce the new Lumia device at Mobile World Congress in March, 2015. We’re guessing the company will want to make an impact with this new device, so who knows, maybe a 50 megapixel sensor will be a real goal.
