Microsoft rolled out an update for its Office suite of apps on iOS, which allows users to save files directly to Apple’s iCloud Drive.
Originally, users had to save files from the likes of Word, Excel, or Powerpoint to Microsoft’s own cloud service, One Drive. But now, users can utilise third-party storage services such as iCloud, which iOS users can access for free, and Box. Other services are likely to be added in the future.
The third-party support is only available on iOS platforms at the moment. Microsoft says that it is “hard at work” on similar capabilities for Android and upcoming Windows 10 versions of its Office suite.
This update comes just months after Microsoft announced a partnership with Dropbox. This partnership lets users edit Office documents from within Dropbox and then save files directly to the cloud storage service.
