Microsoft officially announces its first fitness band

After apps for the Microsoft Band, appeared on the Mac, Android and Microsoft app stores, the company confirmed that its fitness band will be released in the coming days.

The Band will retail for $199, but will only be available in the U.S. “in limited quantities” initially. There’s no word on international availability just yet, but expect more information in the near future. After all, Microsoft has lofty aspirations and health is a global concern.

Microsoft’s Band has 10 integrated sensors, which track everything right down to UV exposure and stress. It is expected that the device will have a 48 hour battery life. As the app listings suggest, the Band will work across all platforms. The free app also promises that users will be able to "seamlessly sync your band to the cloud."

The Microsoft Band is available to U.S. customers this week for $199. We expect that more information regarding a wider rollout with be released soon.
