Microsoft recently announced that it was dropping “Nokia” from the Lumia brand and today showed off its new design.
New devices will use the company’s name on the front and rear in a fairly straightforward rebranding. Nokia’s existing phone websites and social network accounts will also take on the Microsoft Lumia branding in the near future.
The company still has a 10-year license to use the Nokia brand on basic phones. Senior Vice President of Marketing for Phones at Microsoft, Tuula Rytilä, explained to the Nokia Conversations site: "Microsoft will continue to sell Nokia-branded, entry-level category of phones, such as the Nokia 130." Microsoft hasn’t outlined how many of these phones it plans to release.
Microsoft plans to unveil a new Microsoft Lumia device soon. Existing Nokia Lumia devices will still be supported and Rytilä said that Microsoft will continue to honour warranties and “provide world-class care services as before.”
