Microsoft's Cortana produces startlingly accurate World Cup predictions
Microsoft added World Cup predictions to its Cortana over the weekend and she’s currently four from four having backed Brazil, Columbia, The Netherlands, and Costa Rica to progress.

If you’re hoping to follow her lead for the remaining knock-out games this round, she has predicted that France and Germany will make it to the quarter-final stage later today. Bad news for those getting behind Team USA though, as Cortana has declared that Belgium will triumph.

Microsoft uses models to evaluate World Cup teams based on win / loss / tie records, game time, weather conditions, home advantages, and other factors. The track record speaks for itself so far, which has managed to survive two penalty shoot-outs and a late scare.

Will she be able to make it eight from eight? Time will tell. The Bing predictions engine has previously been used to forecast who would get voted off or win The Voice, Dancing With the Stars, and American Idol.
