Minecraft finally arrives on Windows Phone

After Microsoft bought Mojang over the summer, it was only a matter of time before the incredibly popular Minecraft arrived on Windows Phone devices.

That time is now. It’s unlikely that this release will prompt a deluge of users switching sides. Minecraft on Windows Phone is the same "Pocket Edition" found on iOS and Android. And these were released three years ago.

Still, Windows Phone users may appreciate being able to get in on the action at long last. There’s still a vast world to explore, full of caverns, treasures, and monsters. Minecraft Pocket Edition could still be a huge hit on Windows Phone. Despite how long it’s been out, the game was the top selling iPad game of 2014, and second on iPhone.

Minecraft has since been released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So why shouldn’t Windows Phone users be able to join the fun?

Minecraft Pocket Edition is available for Windows Phone devices from the Windows Phone store. Notably, the game is only playable on Windows Phones running 8.1.
