New app helps you easily scan old photos

Google has so many products it can be hard to keep track but their latest is definitely worth seeking out.

PhotoScan is a simple app which is all about helping you to easily make digital copies of your old school printed photographs. Here's the slightly aggressive pitch.

Sounds good right? Well all you have to do to get going is download the app on iOS or Android and load it up. Then you'll pick a photo you want to save and take a snap, which will trigger the flash. The app then tasks you with taking four further snaps from different angles. This is designed to get all hints of the flash out of the image, and to fix another other issues, as well as creating a high quality final file.

Do all that and wait a couple of seconds and you'll have a pretty good version of the final image. Actually we found there we some issues with reflections in the background, particularly on photos which were stored in a frame with glass - which should surely be something the app is able to handle.

Still it's a good idea and hopefully the technology will improve with time.
