New iPhones could feature tougher Corning displays

Corning, the company responsible for displays found on many smartphones, including the iPhone 6, announced that it will be shipping Project Phire on smartphones later this year.

It is expected that this new display will make its way to the next generation of iPhones. Apple has chosen Corning as the display glass provider for many generations of iPhones, including the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It’s not definitive proof by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s the most likely scenario.

Corning is a dominant force in the market, supplying Apple as well as its main competitors like Samsung. Its upcoming Project Phire display is expected to stand up to scratches and impacts well.

Many were left disappointed with the fact that the iPhone 6 didn’t ship with sapphire glass and isn’t waterproof. The iPhone is lagging behind in terms of resistance, but a stronger display will ease the nerves at the very least.
