Nikon announces 800mm super-telephoto lens
Nikon has announced that it is developing an 800mm f/5.6 full-frame-compatible super-telephoto lens for its full-frame cameras. The lens is designed with sports, news and wildlife photographers in mind. As a result, it boasts the longest focal length of any Nikkor autofocus lens as well as being dust and water resistant.

When announcing this lens Nikon said that it will “continue to develop and release products offering superior performance and functionality based on the optical technologies it has cultivated over its long history.” The lens is just a prototype for now, but it will be on display to professional photographers at the British Open golf championship (July 19-22). This lens is scheduled to be on display at the Nikon service depot at the event, of which Nikon is a sponsor. The prototype will also be shown off at Photokina 2012 (September 18-23), the world's largest photography trade show, in Cologne.

The full specifications, release date and suggested retail price have not yet been announced.
