Far Cry 3’s 80s-tinged spin-off, Blood Dragon, was a breath of fresh air and a lot of fun, but it won’t be getting a follow-up.
Far Cry 4’s Creative Director Alex Hutchinson appeared on IGN’s Pubcast Happy Hour podcast and said that a sequel isn’t going to happen. He said, “The cool thing about Blood Dragon was that it was a surprise. It was a great use of the Far Cry 3 base, and had an awesome soundtrack.”
But it’s not all doom and gloom. Hutchinson hinted that we may get something else instead. He said, “Hopefully we can come up with something that surprises you as much as the original Blood Dragon.”
While many people would be perfectly happy with more Blood Dragon, Hutchinson made a valid point: “And if we did make one, I'd probably get told on Twitter 'are we going to get a Blood Dragon every year? You're just in a factory churning things out'."
After the surprise that was Blood Dragon, it will be interesting to see what the Far Cry team can come up with.
