Now you can add comments to quoted tweets

Copying and pasting a tweet and its source before adding a comment is a great, if not unwieldy, way of letting Twitter followers know what you think…or how hilarious you are. The process of quoting tweets and commenting on them will be easier from today.

Twitter is changing its Quote Tweet feature to allow users type out up to 116 additional characters, which appear alongside the original tweet. Rather than simply adding text, the feature embeds the intended tweet within the message. If you want to test out the feature for yourself, press the Retweet button and select ‘Quote Tweet’.

Web users and iOS users will be able to try out this new feature from today. Android users will have to wait a little while longer. Twitter only said that the functionality is “coming soon” to Android.

Twitter’s support page details the following steps for commenting on a quoted tweet:

From Web:

  • Hover over a Tweet.
  • Click the Retweet icon.
  • A pop-up will show you the Tweet and a comment box.
  • Type your own comments in the Add a comment field.
  • Click the Tweet button.
  • The Tweet will then be shared with your followers as a quote Tweet!

From mobile apps:

  • Tap the Retweet icon.
  • Tap Quote Tweet.
  • Add a comment and tap Tweet.
  • The Tweet will then be shared with your followers as a quote Tweet!
