Anyone concerned about the data usage of browsing the web on their smart watch will be pleased to hear that Opera is bringing its Mini browser to the Samsung Gear S.
Its often praised data compression technology compacts web pages to as little as one-tenth of their size. This in turn makes more efficient use of the Gear S' integrated 3G connectivity. The app also offers private browsing mode and a "Smart Page" that aggregates social updates plus the latest news.
We’re not sure how frequently we’ll browse the web on a smart watch, or for how long we’ll be able to stare at a miniature screen. But at least when we do, we won’t be burning through our plan’s data allowance for the month.
In further good news, Opera Mini will be available to download when the Samsung Gear S becomes available to purchase. The Gear S is expected to launch in the US sometime this fall.
