People are smashing their phones to take high five selfies

The internet is full of very silly things, but this latest craze is taking it to a whole new level of dumb.

Selfies have just gotten more dangerous, with a move to take a 'high-five selfie.' Essentially you have to press the shutter release on your phone and drop it at the same time, then give youself a high-five- otherwise known as clapping.

The pioneer of this world changing thing is a fellow from North Carolina State University called Seth Schneider. Here is the first ever high-five selfie in all its glory.

So... this is just a dude dropping his phone and clapping, captured for eternity in a really blurry photo. Yet somehow it has been retweeted over 170,000 times. I guess the internet just really wanted something new to look at that day.

Of course this is a pretty good way to smash your phone, so at least consider doing it over some carpet. Or better yet, don't do it at all and get on with your regular lives.
