Phone-slowing Android apps named and shamed

AVG Technologies released its quarterly list of the Android apps that are taking their toll on your phone. They may be eating up all your data, draining your battery, or using up your storage space.

Spotify is the worst offender, according to AVG Technologies. The app can slow down your device while it’s open, plus it can use your phone’s storage to hold 3333 songs. It ranked fifth in the apps that use the most data.

AVG Technologies looked at the metrics of more than 1 million Android apps. Its findings were quite eye-opening.

Tumblr topped the chart for highest data traffic. The top five was rounded out by Snapchat, BBC News, Netflix, and Spotify. The appearance of BBC News is possibly the most surprising inclusion, especially considering the apps it’s ranked alongside.

Battery life is one of those things that typically bothers smartphone owners. You may want to avoid apps like Beaming Service for Samsung, which auto-starts, or Samsung WatchON. Popular apps that chew through battery life include Facebook and Snapchat.
