Qualcomm announces VR headset accelerator program

Qualcomm, the American technology company behind the Snapdragon chipset used by Sony, Samsung and LG among others for their smartphones, has announced an accelerator program for VR headset manufacturers, as noted in an article from The Verge.

The accelerator program will be launched in conjunction with a new Qualcomm VR headset reference design with the goal of assisting VR companies in manufacturing headsets with features not currently found in the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift.

Qualcomm also revealed a new partnership with hand tracking company Leap Motion aimed at developing new interfaces for VR.
