Samsung Could Launch a Windows Phone Handset This Year

According to a report close to Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung, the company could come out with a range of Windows 8.1 powered handsets.

The tech giants could be looking to produce budget phones featuring the operating system set for launch later in 2015, as a replacement for their failed experiment with their own Tizen OS. The source, speaking to the Korea Times, says Samsung isalready testing Windows 8.1 on their hardware for such a launch.

The problem is Samsung and Microsoft (the owners of Windows 8.1) are currentlylocked in a legal battle. Apparently, Samsung owes Microsoft royalty payments in the wake of the American company aquiring Nokia. The legal process has been delayed but any current litigation would certainly put future dealings between the two companies in doubt.

If they do settle their issues over payment, we could see a Samsung Windows phone before the end of 2015. More as we get it.
