Bendable technology is the future, and Samsung could be one of the first off the mark, as an executive said that a bendable handset will be released before the end of the year.
Vice president of Samsung Display's business strategic team, Lee Chang-hoon, told investors at an event in New York that the company plans to release a more flexible device in the near future. He said, “We plan to provide consumers with a product that has a flexible display by the end of the year.” However, he added, “Nothing has been decided on the finished product.”
He said that no other company will have the production capabilities of Samsung. He explained, “We will secure production capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 [flexible displays each month] by the end of next year.”
As a result, it is more likely that Lee means that the flexible handsets will arrive by the end of next year rather than in six weeks’ time. After all, it seems unlikely that Samsung would commit to releasing a new handset in the next weeks, yet not have all its details locked down.
