Samsung is rumoured to be working on a circular smartwatch, codenamed Samsung Orbis, and the latest reports suggest that it can be wirelessly charged.
Currently, Samsung’s range of smartwatches must be placed into a charging cradle. That won’t be the case with the upcoming Samsung “Orbis,” according to SamMobile. The site reports that it will support wireless charging right out of the box.
It was previously reported that it will utilise Samsung’s Tizen OS in place of Android Wear. The Orbis smartwatch will apparently feature a unique design that uses a rotating bezel ring and a digital crown. Unlike the Apple Watch, the digital crown here will not serve any additional functions other than turning the device on and off. These functions will instead be delegated to the rotating bezel ring.
It is expected that Samsung will unveil the smartwatch at Mobile World Congress in March. It could be quite a busy show for the South Korean company who is also expected to announce at least one Galaxy S6 model.
