Scientists Predict Which Photos Will Go Viral On Facebook
Provided its already kind of popular… which sounds like a cop out.

And it’s not like this is an algorithm that will net your blog 80K page impressions a day. Because believe me… we already checked…

By watching how fast a photo is shared, Facebook Scientists, alongside actual real University Scientists (Too Mean???), can determine with 80% accuracy which photos will go viral. The answer lies in cascades – photos shared multiple times.

At the International World Wide Web Conference in Seoul, Korea, the researchers will present their paper how looking at variables like speed of shares and structure of shares can net up to 80% viral predictability.

Personally, I’ll need some practical examples of accurate viral predictions before I’m convinced of this study’s relevance. But nothing wrong with a drop of science of a Monday morn!
