Sky announces its 'Buy And Keep' movie service for Irish customers
Basically the service allows consumers to purchase movies in addition to renting them, and chucks in a physical DVD of the film for good measure.

In the coming weeks, Sky customers will access Sky’s Movie Store via their Sky+ HD box. This allows them to digitally rent or permanently download the movie of their choosing. However, via the new ‘Buy & Keep’ initiative, customers will also receive a physical DVD copy of their purchased film in the post (admittedly a few days later).

A digital AND physical copy of a film might seem excessive to some but heaven sent to others. But no-one can argue with receiving both for the one price. Provided the (as yet unconfirmed) price is reasonable enough…

Mark Anderson, Director of Sales & Marketing, Sky Ireland said, “We know millions of people love to buy films and now it becomes even easier to do it straight from your sofa with Sky Store. The ability to now own a copy of your favourite film using ‘Buy & Keep’ is the perfect solution for any film fans wanting the immediacy of enjoying the latest movies on your main TV, with the added benefit of receiving the original DVD in the post.”

Incoming ‘Buy & Keep’ titles include The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Turbo, The Wolverine, Mandela, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and The Wolf of Wall St.

No word yet if the digital download can be removed from your Sky+ HD box and put onto your PC. We’ll keep you posted.
