Snapchat adds news and media with Discover feature

Snapchat released a new update for its quick and sensitive messaging app that brings content from media companies to its users.

Snapchat Discover lets users explore stories from a number of different editorial teams. And, unlike many other social media sites, the content featured “puts the narrative first.” A blog post introducing the Discover feature says that editors and artists will determine what the important stories are rather than clicks and shares.

It looks pretty simple to use. As the blog post outlines, “Tap to open an edition, swipe left to browse Snaps, or swipe up on a Snap for more. Each channel brings you something unique – a wonderful daily surprise!”

Snapchat has partnered with a number of entertainment brands, including National Geographic; Yahoo News; CNN; Warner Music Group; ESPN; and Cosmopolitan. Discover will enable them to reach Snapchat’s userbase of more than 100 million monthly active users.
