Snapchat will today unveil its Discover feature, which will let users view multimedia content from publishers.
Media companies such as Comedy Central, CNN, Vice, ESPN and Warner Music are apparently on board with others likely to follow in the near future. Snapchat users may also see content from Snapchat itself, but the main focus is to let media companies reach Snapchat’s userbase of around 100 million people.
The New York Post maintains that Snapchat will announce the deal today, enabling it to profit from its significant userbase. The Discover feature will generate revenue for both Snapchat and its multimedia partners by selling adverts next to the new media content and splitting the income.
Snapchat’s users tend to be quite young. A survey in July showed that its audience for the 14-17 age bracket was the fourth-biggest in the social media category. Snapchat holds a 36.8% share of teens, compared to Twitter’s Vine (31.8%) and WhatsApp (8%).
