Snapchat's Discover feature may be burning through data

Snapchat’s recent update may be causing users to consume a lot more of their data allowance than they would have expected.

The newly introduced Discover feature is reportedly using more background data than normal. Discover links to news feeds from the likes of CNN, People, and more. But it appears to be using a considerable amount of background data. Some users have even said that it’s eaten up their data allowance in a week or two.

Hopefully, Snapchat will fix this issue soon, assuming it’s unintentional. In the meantime, you can restrict Snapchat’s background data. To do so on Android, open up the Data Usage screen from your phone’s Settings app, tap Snapchat, and then elect the “Restrict background data” option. iOS users should tweak the Background App Refresh settings under the General settings.

If you’re an avid Snapchat user, you may want to keep an eye on how much data it’s using.
